You REALLY have to love dinosaurs to really enjoy this attraction.Pros: it is inexpensive ($5), you see authentic dinosaur fossils and traces. The kids will enjoy it. Beautiful scenery. Guides are well versed in the material. Cons: the whole thing takes an hour. It's a small piece of land. There's no coverage if it rains, except for the very small gift shop, which doubles as a ticket booth. There is not a lot to see, but what you do is not commonly found, so enjoy. Good attraction for kids and secret paleontology nerds

I live in Colorado and we've been here a few times. It's really fun and engaging. I like to learn, but it's so easy to make it boring. Not here! Feel free to touch stuff explore stuff and even lick stuff! If you're brave enough, you can lick a dinosaur bone. Beautiful scenic area and great tour guides make this one of my favorite places to go! Why not swing by and check out the Red Rocks Amphitheater, it's right around the corner. Support their conservation by taking an awesome dinosaur tour.

We stopped first at the Dinosaur Ridge Encounter Center where we were greeted by two very helpful women who worked there. The gave us a brief explanation of the artifacts that are displayed in the center, and explained what was to be seen on hike on the road that loops around a portion of the ridge. We decided to walk the asphalt roadway, about a mile and a half round trip, up the hill and back, from the Encounter Center, to see the various points of interest that include dinosaur bones and tracks that are over 50 million years old, and numerous geological sites from the Cretaceous and Morrison periods. The informative signs posted at the points of interest.A tour bus is available for a small fee and would be advisable if you not prepared to walk the road. The site is definitely worth visiting.

The tour guide, Tim, is knowledgeable and makes the tour fun. His passion for paleontology is apparent and he is interactive with his tour group. When teens and pre-teens start asking questions and become excited about learning it's always a great experience!

The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. The tour was interesting, and the guide pointed everything out which was great because without him pointing things out, we would have walked right past them. It is worth a stop.

Just had to visit this place to see the footprints of the dinosaurs that roamed the area millions of years ago. We visited after the site after picking up our car as it's easier to visit under your own steam... Fantastic site easily accessible from the Highway and the walk around it is along a closed road. Got to visit site to see footprints of 6 dinosaurs including Allosaurus and Stagasaurus. Really enjoyed the visit and cool drink afterwards...

with Lisa, Nov.11, 2014. Want to add that guide was good with children as there are several stops that give children a chance to climb on rocks. This is an excellent introduction to how landscape has changed and how we are able to find dinosaur fossils. Guide shows some bones still in rock. Fascinating. Combine this with visit to Natural History Museum on outskirts of town of Morrison.

We just went by ourselves and walked along the trail. If you want the information then pay for the guided tour but we didn't feel it was necessary.

My son loves dinosaurs and this place. The fossils are cool to see and the exercise you get from looking for fossils is also amazing

I was in Golden for business and got done a bit early, so I decided to check out Dinosaur Ridge just a few miles to the south. It was definitely the "off season", and the place was not crowded. I got a private guided tour for $5 (since I was the only one there), and the gal that took me around was astonishingly knowledgeable about the various tracks and bones viewed at several stops along the route, and she did a great job explaining all the sites. It turned out she was a paleontologist! The little gift shop is very "typical", and there is also a small museum on site that I didn't walk around in (it was $2 more), but could have been interesting if you have the time. Dinosaur Ridge is not "Jurassic Park", with animated models or rides, but is a real sampling of what researchers deal with to uncover our earth's past.

We've been here a few years ago and did the self guided tour, but this time we took the shuttle bus and had a tour guide. He was amazing! (Can't remember his name unfortunately, but he was a guy with tattoos) He gave us a ton of information, answered extra questions and was very enthusiastic during the tour. We learned so much more going on the guided tour than we ever would have on our own.

The self-guided nature tour through time is a great way to spend an hour or two learning about geology, biology, and even the energy industry. You can almost hear the ancient waves crashing on the Cretaceous beach or the streams flowing through the Jurassic landscape. In today's world of electronic everything and instant entertainment, this is a perfect place to get back to what it's actually like to be part of the natural order of things rather than being removed from it.

You can do the self guided tour or take the guided tour. We took the guided tour, The guide was very knowledgable! He explained things really well. Good for families and there is a little tour bus that takes you to the sites.

We stumbled across dinosaur ridge on our way back from red rocks and I'm glad we did. We took the shuttle and our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was able to point out things that I think would be missed by the self guided tour. We had a sleepy five year old with us so walking the ridge would've been a mess. I thought the price was totally reasonable as the tour was over 40 min. When we were leaving the guide also suggested some great places for a late lunch. We enjoyed it!!
