This old pilot station can summertime be reached by taxiboat from the local fishing harbour. You can experience the life of the pilots 100 years ago, and you can also enjoy the fantastic enviroment with big ferries passing by just a few hundreds of meters from the clifs. Summertime there also is a small cafeteria with the best view in the Baltic Sea.

The Kobba Klintar ancient harbor pilot station a twenty-minute boat ride from town is now a tourist attraction. Not much to do, but lots of atmosphere. Enjoy the ocean, the smooth rocks and the serenity. Just commune with Nature. You can swim in the sea at the south end. Skinny dipping is fine, as anywhere in Scandinavia. In high season (July to mid August) there is a cafe serving sandwiches and beer.

After much googling, I rang the phone number in the attached pics, and established that yes, we could visit the island that Friday afternoon. It's a lovely walk down the coast from the ferry port in Mariehamn to Korrvik - from where the little boat to Kobba Klintar departs. The cost is currently 20 euro per person for the return journey. The journey itself was very enjoyable - through the little islands (admittedly it was a beautifully sunny day). The protection from the islands meant that despite a strong wind, the sea never got too rough for the fairly small boat. The island itself is a great mixture of the old harbour pilot station, as well as some new additions - sculptures, a treasure trail for the kids, and some funny stuffed birds !The cafe on the island was open, so we were able to get a lovely lunch of bread and fish. The lady serving in the shop was very friendly and spoke excellent english. We had a couple of hours on the island - with just another pair from our boat, and a few who arrived on their own. It was great fun watching the huge ferries steam past just a few metres offshore - as well as the peace and calm of island life.Call the boatman, check the cafe is open - and go !

Passed this place twice while our cruise-ferry was approaching Mariehamn port during our cruise from Stockholm-Helsinki .On our way to Helsinki, we reached this place towards midnight, but in June it was still daylight.I had no prior knowledge of this place. The building with it's human figure( I did not know at first that it was just a statue ) and the pyramid was absolutely surreal and a bit weird.Got some good photos of it.Though I wonder what it would be to visit it, being so small.

Kobba Klintar guards the approach to Mariehamn harbour and has done so, since times immemorial. Its white house with green corners used to be the first thing sailors saw, returning from faraway lands. The building that used to be home to pilots are no longer used for that purpose, nowadays they house a café and the big triangular building can be used for conferences, with a magnificient view of the open sea.

Only bad thing that the café was closed. Hopefully more open next summer.. The new beacon is nice with a cool panorama view.

This is a easy way to get into the archipelago from Mariehamn (and if you visit ?land you should get out in the archipelago!) The island has both a museum and a café. Get there between 13-15 in the afternoon, and you will see a number of ferries passing by. If you don't have your own boat, you could use a boat taxi service, for example: http://www.fiskelyckan.n.nu/

?r man p? ?land b?r man bes?ka v?ra ?ar och sk?r :) Kobba Klintar ser du fr?n f?rjans d?ck n?r du b?rjar n?rma dig Mariehamn. Man kan best?lla b?ttur/taxi dit ut, tar inte l?ng stund med b?ten.
