It is an amazing view over the Aurlandsfjord, you can see right to the entrance to the N?r?yfjor. Little villages at the fjord and farms up on the mountains. On your way up you can see right to Fl?m into the harbour and so you also see the cruise ships waiting there in summer. If you are going in the morning or in the early evening you can even see surmise ships crossing on their way out/into the fjord. If you are coming with your camper or a rental car you are not used to, you should consider to take one of the busses that are leaving from Fl?m and Aurland daily. The road is pretty steep, narrow and has a lot of swings that are pretty steep and narrow as well. In the winter you should not try to get up there without winter tires. I love it up there. Just an amazing view all year through. The bathroom facilities are close in winter!

It's one of those "you just had to be there" moments. No photos or videos will do it justice. Just go! The view from the drive up was amazing... and the view from the viewing deck is even better. Definitely worth the 210 NOK. :)

Driving up to to Stegastein can be a bit nerve racking because of the twisting turning steep narrow roads, but the views are literally awesome! You can see for miles and it's a great picture spot!! It's so neat to be able to look back down on Aurland and think that you were just down there! There are bathrooms at the top too and information placards as well.

We stopped by here twice - after 4:30 pm in the summer in mid-August. Both times we were almost the only ones here. The view is amazing and you should definitely take the time to visit. Be sure to visit the bathroom, including the last one on the left - the view from the window makes it my favorite bathroom in the entire world.

The road up to Stegastein is narrow, steep, and twisty. It is about a 15 minute drive to the top from Aurland. If you go before 9:00 or after 5:00 you will avoid having to maneuver around the buses on the narrow road. The views at the top are fantastic (and the structure itself is a beautiful work of engineering.) If you are driving I'd also highly recommend continuing on over the "snow road". The pass is a magnificent glacial plateau with wonderful views and a few "surprises" including a walk-through environmental art piece called "The Den".

If you've got a car I would absolutely recommend this fabulous view of the fjords. If you don't have a car, I did a crazy 2-1/2 hour solo hike up, up, up a lightly used hiking path and it was STILL worth it. Do it!

a windy road to get to the top rewards you with a stunning perspective across the Aurland fjord. Try to avoid traffic by going early morning!

Excelent view. Free parking. Ideal visit time is before lunch. When some big ship is in port you must wait.

LOved the view - loved the drive to the view - loved that feeling of floating over the fjords! Watch out for sheep crossing.

We had a day in Flam from a cruise ship everyone went on the railway. We went to the tourist desk got 2 tickets £21 each for the local bus trip to stegastein viewpoint it goes at 10 am 12 am and 2 pm takes 1 and 1/2 hours total giving you 20- 30 minutes at the top. Only 5 people total on the bus ! The road up and back is all hairpin bends the views are spectacular , the viewpoint comes right out over the mountain and has a glass end . There are toilets at the viewpoint but no cafe or shop.Don't bother to go unless it's a clear day or you won't see anything but clouds. Enjoy

From Aurland the drive up is tortuous and narrow and upslope with hairpins. Some sections only allow a single vehicle to pass so go slow and carefully and be prepared to reverse (downslope! along a curve!) to give way to other vehicles. Stegastein itself has a small parking spot but along the drive up there are even better scenic spots with less tourists. Definitely continue the drive up the mountains (instead of turning back and going thru the laerdal tunnel) and don't let the initial drive turn you off because it gets much easier from here on. A BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL drive with snow at some spots you can easily stop and enjoy.

The road up (and down) to Stegastein is rather adventurous, extremely narrow in places and with MANY hairpin bends. I was very happy I wasn't driving! The view is amazing though and Stegastein is well worth a visit, especially on a clear day. We had expected to pay some entrance fee but it is free. There are toilet facilities as well.

If you don't have a car you can sign up for a 1.5 hr. bus tour at the visitor's center. It was worth the trip just to watch the bus driver negotiate turns and oncoming traffic winding up and down the one-lane blacktop road that led to the observation point. Be prepared to take pictures on the way and on the return. Doesn't matter which side you sit on. The viewpoint itself is very unique, but after 10-15 minutes you've been there and done that. What really made the trip for us was opting to extend our visit by 2 hours by adding the guided hike (also booked at the visitor’s center). The bus carries you an extra few hundred meters to a higher point. From there your guide walks you up to a viewpoint that far surpasses Stegastein itself, and then you hike back down to meet up with the next bus for your return. I didn't know about Stegastein until we arrived in Flam, because it isn't included when you view Tripadvisor things to do in Flam.

Make sure you know how to do panoramic on your camera. Fabulous outlook on the fjord. Walkway has a glass end and looks like you can walk off the end.
