The walk up the bell tower is the highlight of this cathedral. It is steep, winding, and at times a little rickety (although not scary), and allows one to go outside at certain points to see an incredible view of the walled city. At the top is a bell keeper with a resident cat who sells postcards and souvenirs, as well as some interpretive materials in German only. There are also nice restrooms at the top.The inside of the cathedral is also very impressive. We loved Nordlingen for its sleepines; it is more off-the-beaten track than other Romantic Road towns but is no less picturesque.

I've been in many churches and this is one of the most unusual for details. All along the walls of the Nave are choir stalls and another row of choir stalls are within this semi-circle. Each of the stalls has carvings at the end of the armrests. These carvings are amazing. I think I took at least 30 photos and could have taken 100 more just of the carvings. They were men and women and dogs of all types and shapes. I could have spent hours just studying them. The altar and art work were all fantastic also. Apparently the church was built from impact stone from the meteor which struck the area 15 million years ago. We did not climb the tower but now I wish we had! If we ever get back, that's the first thing I will do. This is definitely a church I would visit a second time.

This church is built from suevite a material left by a meteor millions of years ago. It is light and lofty with a fine altar painting of christ crucified. The tower is closed for renovation which is a shame as evidently the views are superb

St. George's Dom is an exceptional gothic design and merits spending time to examine its many outstanding features. The vaulting, main pulpit, and pillars are remarkably well executed. The organ gallery in the middle of the church will remind you of florentine paper in its exquisite paintings, colors, and style. The organ itself it beautiful. Many family and personal crests (wappen) are hung throughout the church and all are uniformly well-done. A guide to the church explained that only a part of the original statuary and altarpiece remain in the church, but you must see an amazing carving of St. George. Carvings in the choir are a hoot, alternating between dogs' heads, donkeys or dragons (hard to tell), and all manner of medieval folk.

After reading TripAdvisor reviews on this church tower, the one in Rothenburg and the one in Dinkelsbuhl we decided to save our euros, energy and height anxiety for this tower.....and it was the right choice! It now costs 3€ pp (which you strangely pay near the top only to climb the last 16 steps and be on the observation deck). It is a tight climb. Make sure you wear good shoes. I would not recommend this to small children because it is often steep with little railing. There are bathrooms near the top...the cleanest I saw in five days of travel :-)

Construction nets does not show you the beauty of the building but when you go inside it is nice and cool. Old men are hired to get up the tower, call out from 10pm, which entertains the tourists who call out back.

The climb to the top is worth it! It gives a great perspective of the town and how the wall really would have separated the city from intruders. The interior of the church is huge, but not particularly ornate. Still, the whole site is worth the visit!

Climb up the Daniel Tower, it is worth to do so! That is the only place where you can share the feelings of being a member of the Survey Corps in the amine of "Attack on Titan"!Of course, the cat of the tower, Wendelstein, was another reason I so love this tower!

It was only 2 euro and well worth the view. You can see for miles and miles and they even have bathrooms at the top which was really nice.

You will be charged €2 to climb the countless steps to the top of the tower of St Georgs Kirche, but only when you reach near the top of the tower! By golly, it's worth the effort as the view is stunning. N?rdlingen is a relatively unspoilt medieval walled town, with its walls mimicking in miniature the meteor crater in which the town was built: you can see the entire town wall and the delightful buildings within in - and look out to the rim of the crater some 6 or 7 km further away - fascinating! Make sure you have a good visibility before climbing the tower however ...

We first climbed this tower approx 20 years ago and admired not just the view, but also the venerable keeper for his stamina in climbing up and down to his quarters several times a day.Visiting the Nordlingen with friends last April we climbed with them to the top... Its just as steep ! ... and the new warden is just as amiable. However steep the climb, the views across the town and across the Ries crater are just stupendous and well worth the effort.

We spent the day in Nordlingen today and were glad we went. The kids (10 and 14) ran up the stairs to the Daniel Tower, while I waited in the beautiful Marktplatz. This town is adorable, with half timbered houses that seem to be sagging in the middle or leaning to one side. A walk on the town wall is another must-do.

The church is undergoing major renovations both inside and out. The actual aesthetics are beautiful and worth a visit when done.

It was cold, windy, wet, but the views, the curator and the cat make this a must-do. When you get to the top, there is a small fee to be paid got the long walk up the stairs. Have visited church towers in many countries, this is definitely one of the best.
