It is such a pitty that dozens of visitors visit the volcano or Nikia for a walk and do not enter to the museum. it is surely small but you can find very interesting info about volcano and watch a documentary as well. visitors can also buy some gift bags from the museums for souvenir gifts

I visited nisyros on a day excursion with my husband. To be honest spending the day touring a smelly volcano wasn't my idea of fun but I was so wrong. The views on the way to the volcano crater were spectacular and I got to see the old fashioned greek villages. There were a labyrinth of small white ally ways, steps and buildings leading to the main village square. Once there the view of the island and sea was breath taking ( a proper post card picture) the locals were so friendly they even opened up their church for us so we could look around. The volcano itself was ok not my idea of fun though I stayed at the top while my husband ventured down to the crater as getting down was ok but the thought of walking back up in the heat put me off.For me I really enjoyed the trip not for the volcano part but seeing the old greek style villages. I never expected to see the amazing views and the old villages, so this was a bonus for me.

After visiting the volcano itself, the Volcanologic Museum is the best closure! There is a lot of information about volcanos in general, greek volcanos in particular and Nissyros itself. The entrance is 4 euros. You can also watch a movie about how the island of Nissyros was created!

From the minute we entered the museum we were impressed. The man at the desk immediately offered the information that senior citizens received a discount on the €3 entrance fee. He also asked very politely that people leave their cameras with him as photography was not allowed. The museum was well set set out with all information in English as well as Greek which is not always the case in Greece. The individual articles were clearly labelled but more importantly the overall time chart was clear and concise. For people interested in pottery this museum is a must visit, also for those interested in more information about the volcanoes ditto. On a mundane level the museum was spotlessly clean as were the toilets .The brochures were also available in English.

Really enjoyed this trip - the bus ride alone was fun, twisting and turning around the rim of the volcano! The museum was informative, and you can actually get into one of the craters of the volcano.

Nice museum in a pictursgue village of Nisyros. You can look some of the rare stones found in a museum, you can have a look of the evolution of a museum, you can admire the geological history of Nisyros volcano and the myth joined with it.Moreover, you can have a wonderful view of the volcano few meters outside of the museum, and admire one of the best squares all over the world the one of village Nikia where the museum is situated.

best go first to nikia and that small museum. it gives lot of information to understand the vulcano and see what there is before you enter the vulcano.after that have a sumada (amond drink) just in the little restaurant opposite. its been the best on the island before try to get between the big groups in the vulcano (around 12h)

A nice museum with good explanations of the phenomena of volcanoes with film of how it happened. Small but comprehensive and with signs also in English, and just outside a great panoramic view of the crater of the volcano. A must if you anyway are on Nisyros.

Byli?my na wycieczce na wyspie Nisyros oraz w samym wulkanie. W wulkanie czu? zapach siarki. Uwa?a? pod nogi aby nie wpa?? do bulgoc?cej wody. Ma swój klimat i charakter. Polecam. W samym miasteczku w?skie, malownicze uliczki i ?wietne restauracje.
