In early July this year I took a train to Dunhuang to see the desert.Wewere fortunate to find a nice hotel in central Dunhuang.Nearby the hotel we took a bus to the Yangguan Forrest Park. The views of the sand dunes are really spectaculareven from a long way off.The dunes remind me of the Sahara desert from movies. The entry ticket to the Park is 120 yuan but well worth it.Right from your first arrival at the park one gets a sense of the enorrnity of the desert.Camels canbeen seen every wherefro the entrance and for a fee of 80 yuan you can go for a camel ride.Camel trains leavefrequently accompanied by a camel trainer and are really spectacular. The Camel ride is a MUST Do for anyone visiting the park. It's an amazing experience to be part of a moving camel train. The ride lasts for about an hour with a rest sop on the sand dunes.Around the sand dunes there are various activities such as dune buggy riding, archery, tobogganing down the dunes in a wooden toboggan etc all for a reasonable fee.You can even fly over the dunes in a 3 wheeled craft for about 200 yuan.A fifteen minute walk from the entrance takes you to a beautiful oasis where you can buy cold drink, snacks etc and souvenirs. There are small souvenir stalls in the park. The highlight for me at the park was definitely the camel ride. There are photograhers on site, who take nice photos of you on the camels for a modest 20 yuan.Nice photos ,well worth it Be sure to take a good insect repellent as the mosquitos are irritating and take a waterbottle. Also I recommend a good plastic bag for your camera as sandstorms can damage camera equipment.Have a wonderful visit to the park Andrew
